True Confession

I drop everything to watch “I Love Lucy” reruns.

This was one of the few shows that I was allowed to watch growing up in a VERY sheltered environment.  I just love everything about it: the comedy, the little re conciliations at the end, the schemes, the bonds of friendship and love.  Lucy and Ethel were the most glamorous housewives and Fred looks identical to my grandpa.  Ricky kicked ass, too.

  1. I have seen only a few episodes of the show (I don’t have cable! 🙁 ) but from what I have seen, it’s definitly up there with the best comedy shows ever.  (Seinfeld, 3rd rock(the early seasons), and The A-Team (Just an awsome show).

  2. I Love Lucy ROCKS.  Lucy & Desi were an incredible comedic team.

But my drop-everything show is the original Dick Van Dyke show.  It amazes me how topical that show is today.  Carl Reiner, you are a genius!

    *Oh, Rob*

  3. It never ceases to amaze me, we have so much in common.

BTW, I cleaned my room up and your postcards got put in a lock up box I have, and I’ve uh, misplaced the key here somewhere.

Can ya resend your address in email? I need to send you something.

  4. how odd…ya know…i enjoyed the comedy of the show, but i hated Lucy…she was so annoying! guess i’m in the minority on that one, hon! 🙂

  5. I had a HUGE crush on Lucy!!

  6. Whoa, you’re starting to scare me, Swirly! First the ear wax, now this!  I was obsessed with Lucy and Ricky.  I have the Long, Long Trailer on VHS (taped for me when I was 11). I entered an art contest in my 8th grade year with a collage/picture I drew of I Love Lucy characters. If I can find it, I’ll see if I can scan and post it.

I think I’ve seen every episode.  My favorite is still the Vitameatavegimin (or however you spell it) one.  Of course, I love them all! What’s yours?

  7. I got so excited that I forgot to leave eProps. And I have to leave eProps since you’re a fellow Lucy fan!

  8. I loved lucy too! Especially when she pulled the football away from Charlie Brown right before he was about to kick it!

  9. …although I don’t remember Ethel or Fred. Wasn’t ricky the one that was always emitted puffs of dirt and dust?

  10. My favorites are:

    1) The episode where Ethel and Lucy bought that huge fish and hide it in their hotel bathtub.

    2) The chocolate factory episode where Lucy and Ethel are working with that lady who looks like the Wicked Witch from the West in Wizard of Oz.

    3) The ever-classic Lucy stomping the grapes episode. (They show a clip from it in “Pretty Woman” right before Juliua Roberts gives Richard Gere his money’s worth.)

    4) The episode where Lucy is smuggling cheese home from vacation on the plane and pretends that it’s a baby.

    5) When Little Ricky is born and Big Ricky is in that costume with the feathers and fake teeth and face paint.

  11. I used to love that show, then one day many years later, as an adult, I caught a glimpse of an episode where Ricky had Lucy over his knee and was spanking her, and was so revolted I never watched the show again.

Are you getting the idea I have issues?

  12. Juliet: We all have issues.  I have a subscription to Issues magazine.  My mom has back issues of issues. 😉

  13. Omg, I’d forgotten about the cheese episode! And then she smuggles them all into the band’s instruments and stuff, right? There was one of the roadtrip episodes and they somehow wind up in jail.  I can’t remember why, but it’s the one where they do the square dance with eensy and weensy to escape.  Oof, I wonder if they still play reruns of that show on non-cable channels here.  I’m going to have to find out now. 😉

  14. Do you remember the one where Lucy is dreaming that she has to be sacrificed to the dragon?  That was a good episode, too.  And Lucy caught in the super-duper freezer was a funny mental image, if not episode, too.

  15. “…my mom has back issues of issues…”  OMG, Swirly, that is BRILLIANT!

I never missed Lucy reruns as a kid, and really don’t mind them at all now.  As long as you realize these people are caricatures of themselves, it all makes sense.

  16. I haven’t seen I Love Lucy since I was a kid in the seventies. I don’t know how I would react to it now but I guess it will have a lot of charm left. Thanks for posting the picture of Marilyn! I love her movies very much and am very glad they are being released in widescreen dvd versions now!

  17. Hehe! I led a _Very_ sheltered life, too, and didn’t watch much tv. But I did manage to watch those “I Love Lucy” Reruns with my Grandma. Thanks for leading me down memory lane for a bit.

  18. “LUCY!!!! YOU GOT SOME ‘SPLAININ TO DO!!!!”

hehehe I watched that show all the time when I was little. I can’t ever watch it now because I only have basic cable and we don’t get it. Oh well. I don’t get the A-Team either. =-(

    I’m deprived!

    Tain

  19. I am the same way with I Love Lucy!  I’m glad I’m not the only one!  🙂

  20. Ahhhhhhhhhh! Good ole LUCY! 😀

    The Duchess

  21. Oh no.. dragon episode!? I’d been led to believe that I’d seen them all! Maybe I have, egads, maybe I haven’t!! I must find this episode.

And yeah, I loved the freezer episode! The icicles hanging off on her with her little frozen face in the round window. 😉

  22. You are too cool, Brandi. 😀
