Art of the Day
Maurice Denis (1870 – 1943)
Portrait of Yvonne Lerolle, 1897
Oil on canvas, 166 x 78 cm.
My take: I love the monochromatic color scheme in this. The vertical lines (in the folds of Yvonne’s dress, the trees, the three versions of her, etc.) add to the feel, too. This is one of the few paintings that I have seen by Denis not based on mythology and that doesn’t showcase his evident love for pink and mint green.
ah.
not bad.
interesting.
i never did tell ya what one of my most favorite paintings is.
its dali.
but you’ll never guess which one.
i’ll have to find it. show ya.
It is rather peculiar. I like your tarte, swirling. I’ve been to the Tate in London a few times to watch, amongst others, the permanent Turner collection. What I like most, though, are the Pre Raphaelites.
Your opinion?
I like Pre-Raphaelite era art, but I am deepy in awe of a big variety of work. My favorite would most likeyl have to be van Gogh. The feeling in his work – the anger and sadness, to me, is unmistakeable. I love using a knife when I paint with oil, too. I love the texture and the look of it. It packs a punch, in my opinion.
