Guessing Game

Who is responsible for the following quotes?  Here’s a hint: there is a different person for each quote.  Leave your guesses in the comments section.  Good luck!

(1) “If men had to have babies they would only ever have one each.”

(2) “If I didn’t start painting, I would have raised chickens.”

(3) “Preachers in pulpits talked about what a great message is in the book. No matter what you do, somebody always imputes meaning into your books.”

(4) “Everywhere I go I smell fresh paint.”

(5) “Don’t confuse fame with success. Madonna is one; Helen Keller is the other.”

(6) “To me, the whole process of being a brushstroke in someone else’s painting is a little difficult.”

(7) “If you can’t beat them, join them. If you can’t beat them, arrange to have them beaten.”

(8) “I don’t know anything about music. In my line you don’t have to.”

(9) “I wanted to make a kids’ film that would strengthen contemporary mythology.”

(10) “In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad idea.”

Annoying Trick of the Day

Step carefully over sidewalk cracks.  Hop over seams in tiles.

See how long it takes someone to ask you what the hell you are doing.  This is fun to do just before lunch when everyone is a little on edge anyway.  For the more timid, do it on the way back form the bathroom and sport a big grin.

True Confession

I have a really difficult time sleeping without Gray.

Tonight Gray is at our house and I am alone with the Sodomy-Board-Bed and five rowdy dogs.  I miss him already.

I miss hearing him breathing beside me, even if he is snoring out of control.  His presence comforts me.  He makes me feel at home.  I love being near him, even if he does elbow me in the cheekbone.  Oh well … I guess I’ll relish tomorrow night even more.

*sigh*

Art of the Day

M.C. Escher (1853 – 1890)
Day and Night, 1938
Woodcut printed from two blocks
39×68 cm.

Two cities depicted here, one illuminated from the light of day, the other under the blanket of night. Between the cities, gray squares (apparently farmland) morph upwards into flocks of birds teselated together in unity. The lighter grey birds morph into the light of day on the left, where the darker birds change into the night sky on the right. — info from The Escher Shrine

Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890)
Starry Night Over The Rhone, 1888
Oil on canvas
Musee d’Orsay, Paris

“What makes people the world over stand in line for van Gogh is not that they will see beautiful pictures [but] that in an indefinable way they will come away feeling better human beings. And that is exactly what van Gogh hoped for.”

Annoying Trick of the Day

Blow bubbles.

It’s a cheap way to reduce your own stress while making other people either wonder what the hell is wrong with you or laugh.  (You can buy a huge container from Wally World for less than $3.)

I do this from time to time while waiting in the drive-thru lane at the bank.  Some people twist and contort to see where they are coming from.  Some people pretend not to see them.  It’s a hoot.

This also works really well at work, especially for you cubicle dwellers.

House-Sitting Journal
Day 4, June 26th

09:46  I woke up, rushed to let dogs out before they peed inside.  Headache is gearing up.

09:48  Called Inter.Comm. professor to get final exam score and final grade for the class.

09:50  I got a 92 on the exam and a 90 for the class.  Woo-hoo!  An “A”!   Headache kicks it up a notch.

09:51  My jaw dropped as I heard that I got one of only two A’s for that course for the year.  I was utterly speechless.

09:52  Well, since I was utterly speechless, I hung up.

09:53  Threw in “As Good As It Gets”.

09:58  Pawing at back door reminds me that puppies have peed are ready to eat.  NOW.  Headache is blaring now.

10:06  Resume the movie.  Pain lessens.

11:46  *sniffle*  Jump in the shower and wake Gray up.

12:16  Lazily leave the shower after using all of the hot water in the neighborhood.  Headache lessens.

12:35  We hop in the car for UNCP.

13:00  His and hers therapy begins.  I see my guy, his sees his.  We meet afterwards and get lunch.

15:10  Back at our place, we start cleaning/packing.

15:50  Gray starts playing Allegiance.

17:50  I get on Xanga.  Pain is much worse, but is overpowered by the glow of eProps and Brandi’s site logo.

18:50  Gray coerces me off computer to take a nap and rest.

21:58  Gray finds time to write this blog.  He finishes another game of Allegiance, wakes me up and we head home.

22:40  Gray feeds puppies and I go to bed after popping two Excedrin Migraine.  I decide to take my chances on the daybed in the office instead of the Board of Sodomy Bed.

22:51  Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

House-Sitting Journal
Day 3, June 25th

04:32  I woke up, heard that all was quiet and got up to study for my exams.

04:47  Dogs woke up.

04:48  Dogs were let outside.

06:40  Stopped studying, went to get shower.

We (Gray and I) left S&D’s house at 07:00 and arrived at school at 08:00 , just in time for the Poli Sci  exam.  It was not what Dr. Magna-Carter had told us it would be on, so I BS-ed my way through it.  We had an hour between classes, so we reviewed more for the Inter.Comm. exam.  We went in at 10AM and took it.  I felt like I did pretty well, though a few of the true/false were not on things I had remembered reading in the text and not on things we’d discussed in class.  Hmmmmm …

10:53  Headed back to S&D’s.

Upon our arrival, Gray let all of the mutts back in.  I cringed and ran into the office to “clear my head on Xanga”. I took Mo with me.  I stayed there for five hours. I cleaned out some of my old emails, found this poem, worked on my on-going saga of house-sitting, and drank a 2 liter of Mt. Dew.

18:47  Gray pried me off the keyboard and we ate dinner together, as we always do.  We watched TV for a bit.

21:00  Raw is War came on.  I assumed the position on the couch. (You little perverts!  “The Position” is when I lay down on the couch and throw a blanket on. This is what I do when I am watching something that I know I will fall asleep during.)

21:46  Last time I remember looking at the clock.  Sometime after this, Gray woke me up and aided me into the bed, making sure I avoided the Board of Sodomy.
