Long Time, No Log

Yeah, yeah, so sue me.  It has been a long time with no new post from the Swirlster.  Well, here is the answer to your wishes, dears…

NEWS
I have accepted a position on the school newspaper as Entertainment Editor.  It has been interesting so far – wish me continued luck with it, please!

POST-MIDTERM GRADES
So far so good…

ART 101: Elements of Design – B+
ART 132: Intro to Drawing – B
HST 115: World Civ. Since 1500 – B
THE 250: Intro to Theater – B+

PLANNING
I’m pre-registering for spring classes soon.  So far it looks like I will be tackling the following:

ART 140: Intro to Printmaking
ART 102: 3D Design
PSY 360: Abnormal Psych
JRN 191: Newspaper Production

I need one more class to add to the load … hmmm…

WORK
Work-study is going along well.  I have played waitress at the last two gallery openings.  I will reprise this role on Sunday to open the “Senior Show”, which showcases artwork by the lucky girls and guys who escape the Mickey Mouse politics of the art department through graduation in December.

MISC. SCHOOL
I was on running crew for the student production “Working”, a musical.  It was a very interesting endeavor and one that I would like to try again.  The hours were long, but the experience was overall a pleasant one.

LOVE LIFE
Gray and I are still doing well.  It’s amazing the difference that my deciding not to get cable when we moved made.  I’ll put it in easy to understand mathematical terms for you:

no cable = less distractions + no WWF

less distractions + no WWF = more quality time + more reading + more talking

more quality time + more reading + more talking = happier Jenn & Gray

no cable = happier Jenn & Gray

Trying To Make Sense …

I guess I can understand WHY they keep shipping Dick Cheney off to this “undisclosed location“.  I do realize that it is a “security precaution“, but don’t you think he is sick of sitting in that McDonald’s bathroom stall by now?  Give the man a break already …

Updates, Etc.

After missing all of last week due to a horrible UTI that spread to my kidneys, I am back in action in more ways than one.  Classes are going well.  Next Thursday and Friday are fall break – two days off!  I don’t have any on my mid-term exams until after the break, either.  Thank God.

Things in my work study position are going well, too.  Jimmy and I are getting along well and I have had an nbsp to hang two exhibits in the gallery.  Neat stuff.

Next weekend, during my break, I am traveling back north to see my mom and going to the Women of Faith conference in Charlotte, NC.  If anyone else will there, let me know and perhaps we can meet up while we’re there!

Dealing with my ex-husband’s bullshit makes me appreciate the wonderful man in my life now.

Jason, the ex, is such an immature little boy.  He thinks everyone can be scared or controlled.  He knows nothing of honor, responsibility or respect.

Gray, my fiancee, knows how to be a stand-up man – strong against adversity and loving towards me.  He takes over when things are out of control and makes sure to support, comfort and congratulate me.

Thank God for decent men.

Thanks for all of the emails checking in on me here.  Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.  Worldwide this past week has been overwhelming and shocking.  I had been waiting to her from Gray’s brother, a Pentagon employee, and we did find out that his is okay.  Gray’s best friend, Sean, a DC native is also fine.

I just wanted to poke my head in and say hello.  All is well here and for that I am most thankful.  A pint of my blood is en route to where it is needed and with it I send my prayers.

Still in shock,
Swirly

School Daze
Nakedness Abounds

I was a bit worried, as I stated in the previous post, because I had heard that my supervisor, Jimmy, was the nude model for the drawing class.  I have found out since that he is not going to be the model this semester.  The department has instead placed an ad in the Wednesday and Sunday papers in the Lumberton and Fayetteville area for a model.  Twenty bucks and hour to strip for college students.  You get a few portraits out of the deal and are immortalized in conte crayon and graphite.  Not a bad deal if ya ask me.

From some of the antics that I have seen here thus far this year, lots of money and effort could have been saved in this endeavor, though.  I think more applicants could have been found by their posting flyers around campus.  There are several individuals who are already half naked and seem to be more than willing to shed the rest of their clothing.  There are several of my fellow art students that I am certain that would gladly climb into the center of a classroom and disrobe.  As I mentioned above, they would be drawn by ten to twenty students.  In their favor, they would get to advertise their “goods” and they would get free advertisement with their naked ass posted all over the building.

I also thought, however, that perhaps my first week on the job is a bit soon to let this side of my cynicism show.  I thought I could toss the idea out here on Xanga first, though.   Enjoy.

Rediscovery

I was going through some of the things in stuff-I-bought-on-sale-and-never-opened box in the bathroom and discovered two full bottles of Victoria’s Secret pear scented lotion in there.

I smell soooooooo good …
